Mariah Schemenauer is a southern California native and began studying ballet under the direction of Evette Demarco Swinson, former principal with Los Angeles Ballet. She started studying ballet with Inland Pacific Ballet in 2009. In her elementary years, Mariah was a featured soloist in the Youth America Grand Prix and performed as New York City Finalist in 2005, 2006, and 2007. In 2008, Mariah attended the New York City Finals as part of an ensemble. She has been accepted to numerous summer programs across the country. Mariah attended summer programs on scholarship at Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, WA, the San Francisco Ballet School and Gelsey Kirkland Ballet in NYC. In High School, Mariah danced on Varsity dance team all four years and enjoyed performing at sporting events. She also danced as a company apprentice with Inland Pacific Ballet in many ballets such as Swan Lake, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, The Nutcracker, and Beauty and the Beast. After graduating high school, Mariah trained closely with Gelsey Kirkland, known famously for her work with George Balanchine at New York City Ballet, and her partnership with Mikael Baryshnikov at American Ballet Theater. Mariah performed professionally in New York City with Gelsey Kirkland’s studio company in various ballets such as The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, La Vivendiere, Harlequinade, Swan Lake, and Calvary Halt. Mariah currently lives in Southern California and teaches ballet with a strong emphasis on true classical ballet technique in the vagonova style as she was trained by Gelsey Kirkland.
